What a mortgage broker's website needs
A checklist from building sites for three brokers in Manly
A broker's website has one job: turn someone comparing lenders at 10pm into a booked call. Here's what I put on every broker site I build, and why.
1. A first screen that says who you help
In a few seconds a visitor should know who you are, who you help (first home buyers, refinancers, investors, business owners) and how to book a chat. One clear button beats five links.
2. A page for each service
Home loans, refinancing, investment lending, business and car finance: one short page each, in plain words. People search for the thing they need, so a page about refinancing is what shows up for "refinance broker" near you.
3. Calculators
Repayments, refinance savings and extra repayments. Visitors like to run their own numbers before they call, and a calculator keeps them on your site instead of a bank's.
4. Booking that takes a minute
A short form (name, email, phone, what it's about) that emails you straight away, plus your phone number as a tap-to-call button on phones. Ask for less, and more people finish it.
5. Your licence details, done properly
Most licensees ask their credit representatives to show their credit representative number and the licensee's Australian Credit Licence number on their website, usually in the footer, with a general information notice. ASIC's guidance says to write out "Australian Credit Licence" in full rather than just "ACL". Your licensee or aggregator will have marketing guidelines with the exact wording, and ASIC's Regulatory Guide 234 covers advertising credit. Send them the preview before it goes live.
6. A privacy policy next to every form
Your forms collect people's names, numbers and sometimes their finances. Link your privacy policy (often your licensee's) in the footer and right beside each form.
7. Fast on phones
Most visitors arrive on a phone. A site that loads in a second or two, with buttons big enough to tap, keeps them.
8. Your Google listing and reviews
Your Google Business Profile is often seen before your website. Keep it filled in, link it to your site, and ask happy clients for a review.
9. A pipeline for your team (optional)
Behind the website, a private page where each client moves from first chat to settlement saves a lot of "where is this one up to?" messages. It's passcode-locked and hidden from search engines.
